Expressing love to someone other than intimacy?

My boyfriend and I had a LONG talk about how he treats me and he had a nervous breakdown cause he was afraid of losing me....then he says he feels "emotionally ignorant" and that he doesn't know how to feel in certain situations....then he says he only knows how to express his love for someone through sex. What are other ways he can express it? Each time we cuddle, it leads to sex so that wont work. How else can he express it? I need some ideas to throw out to him. I wish he could learn it on his own but in this case, I can understand. Thanks =)
