How is it possible that blind people can see through a dead donor's eye?

at the moment only the cornea can be transplanted but stem cells are growing retina's now so i think in time anything will be possible. it would be extremely hard to transplant an eye because they would have to connect it to the optic nerve an it has millions of nerves to be connected to. But as i said i think in maybe 10years time they will discover how to do this. One man in russia claimed to have transplanted a whole eye. but it has not been confirmed x
